Safety Lesson

We bashed up Faye’s car last night,/she was astounding/before the crunch came/the lake flooded in silhouette./Tall buildings leaning, other cars/insides clean and gleaming./I did it to myself,/in the precious time of evening./At wits end, wrathful, /I defend all I had/at a blinding speed/to keep a secret./Shouting in the car,/marooned in the moment,/she’s unaware of comedy/that stretches to dismemberment./She cracked up on a parked car/searching for a monument./Why? Drink beers in her car?
