Transient Candy

I sought a vacancy,/ under signs lit by bulbs/but I drifted in circles,/young man stifled /with a silver dollar,/ I bought 2 smokes off a stranger./When at long last I found a place/ I winced, collapsed /on a blanket with rock salt,/scattered from his hands./A harebrained cat interrupted/ in a want for leathery hips./Mocked me, lying in rubble, behind a curtain in the front./Last night’s drinks lasted,/to show up on my clothing,/constant in my memory,/leaking from every pore./I hang on in hope of redemption./(But that’s all.)/The swift and the strong lack courage
