Figureheads

Starting at the top,/the steel ball rolls downward./I’ve kept my mouth shut/ shaking hands with leaders of men./I succumb to the void,/in silent encounters/with curious monarchs above me./No one was there, to lift me further,/beyond mottled words of speeches,/glowing orations,/I wait till their subject was me./We make our plan, to fill long lines/filled with illness, filled with dread./The life work of a world weary world,/keeps hands in pantomime,/they make deals in rooms on the day that follows./Yes, I’ve met kings and princes, those souls who scheme on others.
