Gestures From Romeo

When I sought vacancies/I wanted waxy ones,/stifled, hard, stuffed,/violated by buzz bombs/congested by stimulants./(There is a point to the program.)/I was younger, I guessed at newsreels/played the part in frolic,/sweat on my shoulders/hips like leather. When I chain-smoke/ to my advantage, /a style of another city/false, supple, grasping the present./I chased dice as answer /to long lines of saints /rubble strewn pillars /dazzling through mist./I clutch my red blanket/many years later/willing to pay the penalty/eager for the act.
